Shed Wall Bee Rescue with Thermal Localization – Saratoga to Palo Alto

Post date: Nov 05, 2016 11:5:45 PM

Did a really fun cutout this morning from a shed wall in Saratoga, CA. The colony had been in place and overwintered for about 2-3 years according to the homeowner and were friendly bees, but it was time to go. We did a quick scan with the thermal camera and the image of the colony behind the wall was beautiful. We knew right how to work with the wood exterior wall and remove it carefully so the bees wouldn’t be upset and so it could be replaced very easily after the work was done.

Within 2 hours all the bees were vacuumed up and introduced to their new home in Palo Alto. Thanks to the homeowners for saving the bees with us!
